Geography:
An autonomous region of Italy, Sardinia (Italian: Sardegna) is a
mountainous island
located in the Mediterranean. It is located west of the Italian
peninsula and south
of Corsica, the capital city of this beautiful regional Cagliari. The
area is divided
into several provinces. The capital city of Cagliari is located on the
southern
coast and is the island's main port and largest city. Sassari is the
second largest
city and is Northwestern Sardinia.
Sardinia is one of two Italian regions that have been recognized as a popolo,
(popolo=people) by the Italian Parliament. Veneto is the other region.
Tourism:
Sardinia is the perfect destination of several tourists. The waters
surrounding
the island are among the most beautiful and clear in the entire world.
Sailing
around the island, one can smell the beautiful scent of myrtle, arbutus,
rosemary,
and wild juniper.
Climate:
Being situated in the Mediterranean, the island has warm springs and
autumns, hot
summers, and mild winters. Though in the past years, Sardinia has
suffered droughts,
thought on some part caused by global warming.
Language:
Italian and Sardinian are the main languages in Sardinia. Sardinian is
one of the
Romanic languages rooted in Phoenician, Etruscan, and Near Eastern
languages. For
official purposes, Sardinian was replaced by Italian, but it is still
widely spoken
by many of the elderly.
In the northern regions of Gallura and Sassari, the language is a
variety of Corsican.
On the island of San Pietro, Ligurian is spoken.
