Cruise Ships
Cruise ships, cruise liners, or luxury liners, are massive passenger
ship for pleasure
voyages. The voyage and amenities are considered essential parts of the
cruise ship experience.
As of 2004, cruising has become a central part to the tourism industry.
Hundreds of thousands of passengers each year embark on cruises, lasting
anywhere from a few days to over a month. The rapid growth of the
industry has produced over nine new-build ships serving the North
American consumers. Some cruise lines have even gone to the lengths of
stretching current vessels in order to add more passengers. The process
of stretching involves cutting the ship in half, inserting the extra
cabins, and then welding the vessel back.
The cruising industry gradually grew from the transatlantic crossings,
which rarely took less than four days. To compete for passengers, ocean
liners began adding luxuries, fine dining, elegant staterooms, swimming
pools, and such. The most famous of the lavish ocean liners was the
Titanic.
