A Catamaran
A catamaran is vessel, which has two hulls connected by a frame. The
term was originally
used for sailing rafts of Sri Lanka, India, and Polynesia. A
three-hulled craft is referred to as a trimaran. In England during the
1950s, modern catamarans and trimarans were built for racing. Catamarans
are among the world's fastest sailing vessels, which have reached top
speeds greater than 20 knots. Catamarans can be either sail powered or
motor-powered. Catamarans however have been met by skepticism from a few
sailors used to the more traditional designs of the Monohull vessels.
